Explore the complicated question of the religious perspective(s) of America’s founders.
Were they all Deists? Partisans for a “Christian America” or something else? How can we know? The course will briefly survey different ways of thinking about this question, with suggestions for further reading. Time permitting, we will also explore what the Constitution says about religion.
About the Instructor: David Crockett Ph.D., is professor and chair of the Department of Political Science at Trinity University. His primary teaching and research interests are in the field of American politics with a special focus on the American presidency. His publications include The Opposition Presidency: Leadership and the Constraints of History.
