Nourish your soul with the rich imagery of water throughout the Bible. From Genesis to Revelation, the scriptures on water are central to understanding and articulating our faith.
Led by the Rev. Kelly Allen, we consider the waters of chaos in Genesis, and the River of Life in the last chapter of Revelation, where chaos is no more. Water plays a key role in the stories of creation, the delivery of God’s people (through the parting of the Red Sea and the crossing of Jordan River), judgment of a people weak in faith, and the adoption of the people of God through baptism. Each of the study’s nine lessons includes one or more bible passages and a primary theological theme or issue: Birthing, Baptism, Longing, Deliverance, Faith, Justice and Righteousness, Forgiveness, Compassion, and Hope.
The Rev. Kelly S. Allen, pastor at University Presbyterian church, holds a Master of Divinity with honors from Columbia Theological Seminary and a Master of Arts in politics and religion from the University of Birmingham, England. She is the co-moderator of the Interfaith Welcome Coalition in San Antonio, which coordinates detention visitation, advocacy and transitional housing for Central American refugees.
