Weekly Announcements

  • UPC’s newsletter, “The Multitude” is available online. Printed copies are also available in the Narthex, Administration Building and Center for Education.  The SoL Center’s Course Catalog, The Light,” is available online. Printed copies are also available in the Narthex, Administration Building and Center for Education.  Audio recordings of Sunday sermons are on our website.
  • The UPC Member Directory is now online. This is a password protected section and individuals will need to set up an account and enter an access code (provided by the church office.)  In Touch with UPC, a weekly email newsletter with brief overviews of current events, is mailed out Thursday afternoons. Include your email address on the friendship pads to be on this email list.  Alex Cornell’s Blog is http://alexcornell.blogspot.com/. Alex is UPC’s “Young Adult Volunteer” who served his first year in Peru and is now in the Los Angeles area doing homeless outreach and case management for PATH (People Assisting the Homeless.)
  • Equal Exchange fairly traded coffee, tea and chocolates can be purchased in the church office.
  • Handbell Choir Update: All youth from Middle School and older are invited to play in the Thursday “Early Ringers” Choir with rehearsals from 5:30pm to 6:15pm. Prospective players should have beginning music skills. For information contact Anastasia Bernal in the church office. 
  • Partnership of Prayer. Over 75 people are currently united in praying for others as needs arise. If you would like to participate in this prayer ministry, or if you have a prayer request, please contact the office.
  • There will be a Congregational Meeting immediately following worship on Sunday, Sept. 12. The purpose of this meeting is to elect a Deacon and a Nominating Committee Member for unexpired terms.

  • The MOS Committee asks you to continue bringing school supplies to UPC through Sunday, Sept. 12. These will be taken to Haiti by Nicole Foy when she visits this fall. Suggestions: blunt scissors, 70 count spiral notebooks, tape bound pads of 8x12 ruled paper, pads with 100 sheets of ruled paper, 30 centimeter rulers (12 inches), hand held pencil sharpeners, new pencils with erasers, large erasers, and boxes of 24 crayons. Monetary donations also needed.
  • Today, September 5, is Loaves & Fishes Sunday. Basics items needed for the House of Neighborly Service’s Food Bank are 2 lb bags of sugar, 2 lb bags of flour, 1 lb cans of Crisco, 1 pt bottles of vegetable oil, unsweetened cereal, and oatmeal. Monetary donations are also welcome.
  • Dinner Club Alert: During the month of September, we will be signing up for UPC Dinner Clubs. If you have never been in a dinner club, you might want to consider participating this year. The groups meet 3-5 times during the year, and it is a wonderful way to get to know your fellow UPC members. If you were in a group last year, you might want to consider getting together one last time in September, before the new groups are formed.
  • “The most rewarding hour of the week is the hour I spend mentoring a child at Beacon Hill Elementary!” —Marian Higgins, May 2010. To become a mentor or for more information about this rewarding program, contact the volunteer mentor coordinator, Gail Raney gail.raney@trinity.edu or 210-241-4667.
